Framework is a stripped down theme jam packed with well over 100 appearance options to help you design a theme that’s totally you!  With Framework you can control the overall size and positioning of your theme and side column. You choose the font, size and color of almost every element on your blog. The background and header graphics are completely up to you. 

This theme supports large photos and videos creating a clean, beautiful way to showcase your work or inspirations. With knowledge of css you can take this theme base to create endless designs. 

Framework currently has built in support for Twitter, Facebook, Vimeo, YouTube, Google+, Flickr, Pinterest and your email. To activate these icons, just enter your username or the link to your page on any or all of these services. Icons will only appear if you have a link entered. Note, for Twitter you only need your username.

** Note: Make sure you add the full URL, including “http://”.

In addition to social icons, there are icons for users to ask you questions, submit content, subscribe to your blog’s RSS feed and view your archives.

Icons can be placed in the sidebar or in the header, but they all go together. They can’t be split between the two locations.

Disqus ID — Add your Disqus Site Shortname to enable comments on your site. If you don’t have an account with Disqus, you can set one up here. 

Google Analytics ID — Framework has Google Analytics built into the theme. All you need to do is add your site ID to activate this option. This is usually in the format UA-XXXXXX-X.

 Recent Tweets — If you’ve linked your Twitter account to Tumblr (in your blog settings on the dashboard) you have the option to display recent tweets on Framework.

BACKGROUNDS

Set the overall feel of your blog by adjusting the page, post and sidebar backgrounds. You can set the background of your blog to a color or an image. If you use an image, it will be tiled. If you are looking for some nice backgrounds, check here.

HEADER

Your header can be either text or an image, and you can align it left, center or right. The size and color of your header text and header background can be changed. It’s important to make sure only one alignment is selected, otherwise you may not get the alignment you expect.

WIDTHS & MARGINS

You can set the spacing between the top of the browser window and your header, and you can also adjust the width of your blog. These are CSS settings and need to have units, not just a number (e.g. 800px or 75%).

Photo posts and videos will expand to fill the post width you set. Images in text posts will be the size you set them, and photo sets are 500px wide and will center in the post.

The header width can be different from the page width. If you have a sidebar, the page width is the total width of the posts and the sidebar together, otherwise it sets the full post width.

SIDEBAR & HEADER

The sidebar on Framework is optional, and is only shown if you don’t remove all elements from it. The sidebar can contain your bio, picture, page links, social icons, the search box and pictures of who you’re following. If you move all of those to your header, the sidebar will disappear and the posts will fill your set page width.

Note that even if you leave your bio empty, but don’t move it to the header or footer, you will still have a sidebar. Also, if your bio is in the header, your profile picture is not displayed, even if Show Bio Picture is selected unless you select to show it in the footer.

You can also set the sidebar to display on the left side of the screen, the default is on the right.

LIGHT / DARK IMAGES

All of the theme icons can be set to light or dark, to work with the colors you use in your design. 

POSTS

Each post type can have its own fonts, colors and font sizes. For post types that have a title, you can set this independently of the post content.

If you have photo borders turned on, the border color can be changed. This affects the border color for all images.

You can also set the color for all generic links on your blog. This applies across all post types.

Post icons next to the date and album artwork (when available) can both be disabled.

POST META STYLES

You can set the color of post dates, tags and note counts.

STREAMPAD

You can enable StreamPad support if you want. This will put a player at the bottom of your blog that plays all of the music that you post when people visit your blog.

CUSTOM CSS

You can add your own styles to the Custom CSS box of the Advanced Section. It’s not for the feint-of-heart, but if you know what you’re doing this is the place to make your mark on Framework. If you need some CSS tips, check out this tutorial.
